Workout Motivation

 

No matter how much I try, I always end up falling out of my workout routine. Every few months, I either get bored of my workouts, get swamped with homework, or I get stuck with personal problems. Through my experience, I have learned a few tricks to getting back onto the horse.

  1. Remind yourself of the benefits

Keeping a fitness journal can be helpful when you get into a fitness rut. Each time you workout, write down how you felt before and after. Whenever I am done a workout, I feel amazing and happy, and anything that was bothering me before is no longer a problem. Reminding yourself why you love to workout will keep you on track.

2. Change your lifestyle

When aiming for fitness, it is important to make healthy decisions in every part of our lives. Diet and habits are just as important as working out. Surrounding yourself with healthy choices, makes it easier to make the choice to go to the gym. It will motivate you to stay on track longer.

3. Manage your tasks

A big reason that people avoid working out is because they do not manage their work load well. They claim that they do not have time for it because they have to do homework, or chores, or any number of reasons. However, it is not hard to fit in 3o minutes of exercise in a day. You do not need to work out for 2 hours every day. Keeping up with exercising is more important. Whenever our personal lives get too overwhelming, health is the first thing put on the back burner. Neglecting your health causes more problems in the long run.

4. Take it one step at a time

Getting started is the hardest part to working out. Not squats, not tricep curls, but getting up off the couch and deciding to hit the gym. I suggest taking baby steps. Start by putting on your workout clothes. Then proceed to pack your bag for the gym. Then finally lace up your running shoes and get out the door. By this point, you have crossed the threshold and your only thoughts are “It’s too late to turn back now.”

I know that some days it can seem like there is no way that you can work out, but I am telling you it is possible. It may even make your day better. So instead of giving in to the couch and netflix, put on your runners and take on the world.
